I would like to introduce you to a marvelous resource for indie musicians. It comes in either an e-book (.pdf) format, or access to an online database. For a small extra charge, you can get the regular updates. It features names and contact information for hundreds of radio stations, publications which will review your music, record labels, digital distributors, and cd distributors. It is searchable by geographic target, or by genre. Definitely a very valuable resource for you if you are a serious composer/performer. When I was growing up in a small town in Central Montana, Memorial Day weekend was a time when everyone in town turned out to place flowers on the graves of loved ones in the cemetery just outside of town. Lilacs were the flowers of choice because they were usually in full bloom at that time of year up there. This many years later, I don’t know if that is still the tradition there.

Memorial Day weekends around the country are celebrated in various ways – Boulder Colorado has its ‘Bolder Boulder’ – a 10 km run which attracts some 40,000 participants. Many of those are from out of town, but alot of Boulder residents take part – many with complete families – the age range going from people in their 80′s to children down to 3 or so years of age. It’s all about sports, good health, fun, family togetherness, and then some substantial cash prizes for those who run in the elite wave.

Baton Rouge, Louisiana has now established its own, which began in 2010. This will be the third annual one, and its big feature is world class entertainment. This year for Saturday night, May 26, there are plans for an all-star Country Music lineup with Keith Urban, who appeared two years ago at the first ever Bayou Country Superfest. He is a winner of Grammy Awards, Country Music Association Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards , a People’s Choice Award and an American Music Award. Carrie Underwood is a five-time Grammy Award winner, a two-time Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year, a three-time CMA and ACM Female Vocalist winner, and a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Add to those Eric Church, who won the 2011 Academy of Country Music Award Winner as top New Solo Vocalist of the Year and is a nominee for the New Artist of the Year Award at the upcoming Country Music Awards. It will truly be a spectacular evening!

Roger Waters was initially a founding member of Pink Floyd. He later broke from them and went out on his own. He plays bass, guitar synthesiser, clarinet and trumpet, and is a songwriter, vocalist, composer and producer. He has had a very active musical life, and has been inducted into the British Musical Hall of Fame, as well as the US Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If you are in or near Winnipeg in early June, going to this concert will be a great thing for you to do! I spoke yesterday with someone who had seen him Monday night (May 6) in Denver, and he said it was one fabulous show.
